Baltic Industrial Group completes its first steel structures for the Baltica 2 foundation package

Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic (GPB) has manufactured the first anode cages and a boat landing for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm – the largest offshore project currently under construction in Poland, being developed jointly by Ørsted and PGE. These components, part of the secondary steel scope, play a key protective role by safeguarding the foundations against corrosion and supporting their long-term durability at sea. Under the contract, GPB will supply a total of 111 anode cages and an equal number of service vessel landing platforms.
Completion of the first anode cages and a boat landing confirms that GPB’s production line is ready to deliver subsequent components in a repeatable, specification-compliant manner. It is a strong indication that the fabrication of secondary steel structures for the Baltica 2 foundations is progressing according to the project plan.

Components that ensure the functionality and safety of the foundations

Under the contract, GPB will manufacture and deliver 111 anode cages and 111 boat landings – 4 for the offshore substation foundations and 107 for the wind turbine foundations. Production began in late July this year and is scheduled for completion in mid-August 2026. Delivering this scope at GPB’s facilities in Gdańsk strengthens the domestic supply chain for offshore wind and supports the growth of new competencies in Poland’s emerging offshore sector.

Anode cages, boat landings and other secondary steel components are essential to provide access, protection and operability around the foundation structures. They also include mounting points for lifesaving appliances, fire-fighting equipment, as well as safety signs and markings.

Quality control and safety in the production process

Quality oversight for secondary steel components is based on detailed inspection and test plans that define control points and ensure full traceability of materials, welds and coating systems. Representatives of the ordering parties are present on site and participate in daily inspections to ensure that each component meets all requirements. Once assembly is completed, every component undergoes a final inspection before being moved to storage.

The production processes include welding works, steel cutting, lifting operations, mechanical processing and work at height – all of which require strict risk management. This is why a rigorous approach to safety is fundamental to the cooperation between Ørsted, PGE and GPB at every stage of implementation.

Baltica 2 – being developed jointly by PGE and Ørsted – will be the largest offshore wind farm built in Polish Baltic waters. Once commissioned in 2027, it will provide around 1.5 GW of capacity, supplying green energy to approximately 2.5 million households in Poland.
