Over 400 secondary steel components for Baltica 2 foundations on their way to the feeder port

Supplies from three manufacturers

A total of more than 400 secondary steel components for the Baltica 2 foundations will be delivered to Rønne. These include external working platforms, internal suspended platforms, boat landings and anode cages.

A total of 107 internal suspended platforms will be transported from Świnoujście. The components supplied by Smulders are manufactured at its Polish facility in Żary, and then prepared for shipment to the Baltic Sea.

From Gdańsk, 111 boat landings and 111 anode cages manufactured by Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic will be delivered to the feeder port on Bornholm. These structures will be installed on the foundations of the wind turbines and offshore substations.

The longest journey will be made by the external working platforms manufactured by Etermar. A total of 107 such components will be delivered from Setúbal in Portugal.

- Baltica 2 is now in an intensive offshore construction phase: we are installing further monopiles offshore, while at the same time coordinating the delivery of components that will enable us to equip the foundations ahead of the next stages of work. This requires precise coordination of production, transport, port operations and our installation schedule. It is particularly important to us that more than 75% of secondary steel units comes from facilities in Poland. The domestic industry is already playing a significant role in the construction of Baltica 2 and developing the competences needed for future offshore wind projects - said Ulrik Lange, Managing Director Baltica 2 at Ørsted.

- The construction of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm involves not only highly precise offshore operations but also the complex logistics of delivering key components. Polish companies supplying the majority of the secondary steel structures for the monopiles are successfully playing their part in this undertaking. This is yet another example of the maturity of the domestic industry and its readiness to participate in demanding offshore wind projects – said Bartosz Fedurek, President of the Management Board of PGE Baltica.

From feeder port to the Baltic Sea

Once the components arrive in Rønne, they will be systematically transported to the offshore construction site and installed on the foundations in line with the installation schedule. Transport of all units to the feeder port will continue until the end of August, while the first structures were installed on the monopiles in early June.

Secondary steel is an important element of the foundation equipment. Internal suspended platforms and external working platforms provide technical teams with access to the structures, boat landings enable safe access for service vessels, while anode cages form part of the corrosion protection system.
In line with the schedule, first power from the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm is expected in the first half of 2027, with full commercial operation planned by the end of 2027.

About Baltica 2

Baltica 2 is a 1.5 GW offshore wind farm developed as a joint venture by Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. In terms of generation capacity, it is one of the largest energy investments currently being developed in Poland and one of the key offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea. Once completed, Baltica 2 will be able to supply renewable energy to around 2.5 million households in Poland.

The offshore wind farm under construction is also one of the key investments strengthening Poland’s energy security. Its delivery will increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, the project is driving the development of the Polish economy — from ports and infrastructure to the domestic supply chain and new jobs. It is an investment that is truly laying the foundations for Poland’s offshore sector for decades to come.

Baltica 2 is being built approximately 40 km off the coast near Ustka and is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. The project has all the required permits and a 25-year Contract for Difference (CfD).
