PGE and Ørsted launched the installation of foundations for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm

The first foundations for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm have already been installed in the Baltic Sea, marking the beginning of a key phase of offshore installation works. Developed by PGE and Ørsted, Baltica 2 is currently the largest offshore wind farm under construction in Poland. 
The installation of foundations is one of the crucial stages of the project and paves the way for further offshore works, including turbine assembly and the installation of transmission infrastructure. A total of 111 monopiles will be installed at sea — 107 for wind turbines and 4 for offshore substations. The works are scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026. 

The installation process includes transporting the monopiles from the port of Rønne, loading them onto installation vessels, and precisely placing them into the seabed. The operation involves installation vessels such as Svanen and Aeolus, as well as a fleet of supporting ships. The installation campaign is being carried out by Van Oord. ​

The start of foundation installation for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm marks another important step in implementing one of the key projects of Poland’s energy transition. The start of construction of the Baltica 2 wind farm in the Baltic Sea is a breakthrough moment not only for the PGE Group but also for the entire Polish energy sector. It is also a clear signal to the market that PGE, as a leader, is taking responsibility for the country’s energy transition — we are beginning the implementation of the largest renewable energy project in Poland in terms of installed capacity, located in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. In just a year, these installations will start delivering electricity. Once completed, the 1.5 GW wind farm will generate between 5 and 6 TWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the yearly electricity demand of around 2.5 million households. Safety and environmental protection

Installation works are being carried out in demanding offshore conditions with the involvement of numerous vessels and specialists. Every stage of the project complies with strict safety and environmental protection standards.

Among the measures used during foundation installation are bubble curtains to reduce underwater noise and monitoring of marine mammal activity. These solutions help minimise the impact of the works on the Baltic Sea ecosystem. 
Next stages of the project

The start of foundation installation is part of an intensive offshore work schedule planned for 2026. Once this stage is completed, the next step will be the installation of export cables that, through onshore grid infrastructure, will connect the wind farm to Poland’s national power system, as well as the assembly of offshore substations. Subsequent stages will include the installation of inter-array cables and the assembly of wind turbines. At the same time, construction of the onshore substation and grid connection infrastructure is ongoing in the municipality of Choczewo in the Pomerania region.

According to the schedule, the Baltica 2 wind farm is expected to deliver first power in the first half of 2027, with full commercial operations planned by the end of 2027. 
About the Baltica 2 project

Baltica 2 is a 1.5 GW offshore wind farm developed as a joint venture between Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. In terms of installed capacity, it is one of the largest energy projects currently under development in Poland and one of the key offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea region. Once completed, Baltica 2 will be capable of supplying electricity to approximately 2.5 million households in Poland.

The offshore wind farm is also one of the key investments strengthening Poland’s energy security. Its implementation will increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, the project supports the development of the Polish economy — from ports and infrastructure to the domestic supply chain and new jobs. It is an investment that is laying the foundations for Poland’s offshore sector for decades to come.

Baltica 2 is being built approximately 40 km off the coast near Ustka, with commissioning planned for 2027. The project has obtained all required permits as well as a 25-year Contract for Difference (CfD).
