Construction works at the T5 terminal in Gdańsk are at an advanced stage and are progressing according to schedule. The land reclamation has been completed, with a total of 3.26 million m³ of sand delivered. Quay walls have been constructed and anchored, and more than 1,850 piles have been installed across all three quays. Currently, levelling works are ongoing, while reinforced concrete works have started in parallel, including the construction of the first quay sections.
– From Gdańsk we will carry out the installation of 107 wind turbines for the Baltica 2 project, planned for 2027. Delivering the installation port in Gdańsk on time is a key success factor for the entire project. Today’s site visit is a great opportunity to see first-hand the development of Poland’s offshore wind programme. As the largest offshore wind farm in Poland, Baltica 2 will be a cornerstone of the country’s green transition, generating clean electricity to meet the needs of approximately 2.5 million Polish households – said Agata Staniewska Bolesta, Country Manager at Ørsted Polska.
- Terminal T5 is not only essential for the timely delivery of the Baltica 2 project, but also an important investment for the Pomerania region. This project demonstrates that the offshore wind sector provides a powerful modernisation impulse for national port infrastructure. For at least the next 10–15 years, Terminal T5 in Gdańsk will support the development of offshore wind energy, and thereafter it will be used depending on future market needs - said Bartosz Fedurek, President of the Management Board of PGE Baltica. - The on-schedule delivery of the project by the Polish company Istrana is also a confirmation that the domestic industry has the competencies, ambition and potential to deliver world-class solutions and to play a tangible role in Poland’s energy transition - Bartosz Fedurek added.
- The construction of the T5 terminal is a strategic project for Istrana, confirming our role as a key logistics hub for the development of offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea region. The work is proceeding according to schedule, and its scale shows how important this undertaking is both for the Baltica 2 project and for the long-term development of the port of Gdańsk. The cooperation with PGE and Ørsted on this project is an example of an effective combination of the competences of international investors and Polish port infrastructure, supporting the country's energy transition," added Lech Paszkowski, President of Istrana.
In the coming months of the T5 project implementation, construction works will be carried out, including, among others, the continuation of reinforced concrete and piling works, construction of working platforms, deliveries of prefabricated elements, and the start of works related to network infrastructure. In parallel, final levelling works and ground improvement will be completed, fully preparing the terminal for the next phases of the investment.
In 2024, PGE and Ørsted, in cooperation with Istrana, signed an agreement to lease port space for the construction of the T5 installation terminal in Gdańsk. The modern terminal, covering more than 21 hectares, will serve as a key logistics hub for the Baltica 2 project. Thanks to its well-designed infrastructure concept, T5 will enable the simultaneous handling of jack-up installation vessels as well as ro-ro transport vessels, supporting the development of offshore wind in Poland.
With a capacity of 1.5 GW, Baltica 2 will be the largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea and will supply around 2.5 million households with clean, renewable energy.
The Baltica 2 project is financed from the National Reconstruction Plan in the amount of PLN 5.5 billion (part of the financing from PGE). Ørsted is financing the project from its own funds.
