Grupa Przemyslowa Baltic will supply steel structures for the Baltica 2 project

PGE and Ørsted have signed another contract for the production and supply of additional steel structures for the foundations (so-called secondary steel) of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. The production of the components will take place in Pomerania.
Boat landing and anode cages will be manufactured by a Polish company, Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic, at its factory in Gdansk. The anode cages and boat landing are installed to protect the foundation from corrosion and mechanical damage. The contract signed with Grupa Przemyslowa Baltic is the next and final part of the secondary steel area for the Baltica 2 project.

- The signing of this agreement is another step forward for Poland's rapidly growing offshore wind energy supply chain. Key components needed for the construction and subsequent safe operation of offshore wind farms will be manufactured in Poland. One of PGE's main goals is to maximise the participation of domestic companies in both current and future offshore projects in Poland. The use of Polish facilities and the knowledge of our specialists is another important contribution to the development of the domestic industry in the huge and strategic undertaking, which is the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic - said Bartosz Fedurek, CEO of PGE Baltica.

- Today's signing of an agreement with a Polish company for such an important area as secondary steel is a clear signal that the domestic supply chain can compete in the offshore wind industry. This competitiveness is also important for investors as it fosters innovation, which is a key element in the development of offshore wind technology worldwide - Ulrik Lange, vice president and managing director of the Baltica 2 project, Ørsted, said.

- GP Baltic's participation in the Baltica 2 project not only confirms our competence in the production of advanced steel structures for the offshore sector but also provides concrete support for the development of the Polish supply chain. We are developing the production of steel structures for foundations, so-called secondary steel, which play a key role in ensuring the durability and safety of offshore wind farms. We are pleased that the components produced in Gdansk will work for Poland's energy transition - said Adam Kowalski, CEO of the Baltic Industrial Group

Baltic Industrial Group is a Polish holding company owned by the Industrial Development Agency and based in Gdansk. It consists of Gdansk Shipyard, Energomontaż Północ-Gdynia and Baltic Operator. The Baltic Industrial Group manufactures, among other things, steel structures for onshore and offshore wind power. In recent years, it has supplied, among other things, external platforms for offshore wind projects in the North Sea.

The Baltica 2 project entered the offshore construction phase this year. Seabed preparation works for the installation of foundations and subsea cables will begin shortly. Since mid-2024, the construction of onshore grid infrastructure has been underway in the Choczewo municipality. The investors – PGE and Ørsted – have already made the final investment decision for the project. They have contracted all necessary components to begin offshore construction of Baltica 2 and have signed main installation-related contracts – for foundations, cables, turbines, and offshore substations. The partners hold all required building permits. With 107 turbines and a total capacity of 1.5 GW, the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm will significantly contribute to the transformation of Poland’s energy sector.
